System overview
The RM-EDGE™ G3100-FM is a shop-fabricated welded aluminum and glass guard system designed for slab-edge and façade-mounted applications where top mounting is not feasible, or where architectural intent requires a clear walking surface.
Welded aluminum post and rail assemblies combine with laminated safety glass infill to provide unobstructed views, efficient load transfer to the structural edge and consistent architectural appearance.
Configuration
- Face-mounted welded aluminum guard assembly
- Shop-welded post and rail framework fabricated under controlled conditions
- Laminated tempered safety glass infill
- Modular prefabricated panels for consistent installation
- Custom widths, heights and glass thickness configurations available
- Designed for balconies, terraces and retrofit slab-edge conditions
Materials
- Welded structural components fabricated from weld-appropriate aluminum alloys including 6061-T6, 6005A-T6 and 6063-T6
- Tempered laminated safety glass infill
- Stainless steel fasteners and concealed connection hardware
- Isolation materials incorporated to prevent galvanic interaction and moisture intrusion
Fabrication
- Shop welding performed under controlled fabrication procedures
- Welded joints designed to maintain panel rigidity and structural continuity
- Fabrication tolerances maintained for glass alignment and façade interface
- Post-weld preparation completed prior to architectural finishing
Mounting & anchorage
- Face mounted to slab edge, steel framing or embedded structural plates
- Anchorage engineered to transfer guard loads directly into primary structure
- Mechanical anchors, threaded rod systems or structural fastening methods used as required
- System allows coordination with waterproofing membranes and façade assemblies
- Load path designed to minimize slab penetration at walking surface
Performance & code compliance
Designed to meet or exceed:
- Ontario Building Code guard load provisions (OBC 4.1.5.14)
- CSA S157 aluminum design requirements
- OBC SB-13 “Glass in Guards”
- Applicable ASTM safety glazing standards
- Engineering review of welded assembly and anchorage
Finish options
- Factory powder-coat and Duracron, Acrynar, Duranar (XL) finishes meeting AAMA 2603, AAMA 2604 or AAMA 2605
- Standard and custom architectural colors available
- Textured and matte finishes supported
- Anodized finishes available upon request
Applications & advantages
Typical applications
- High-rise slab-edge balconies
- Retrofit balcony replacement
- Podium edges
- Projects requiring clear walking surface
- Hospitality and luxury residential developments
- Façade-integrated guard systems
Advantages
- Preserves balcony usable area
- Continuous welded panel rigidity
- Clean slab edge appearance
- Reduced waterproofing penetrations at walking surface
